who can volunteer?

  • Our minimum age is 9; volunteers 9 - 13 must be accompanied by an adult
  • Volunteer with a corporate group, your family, school, church or friends
  • Volunteers must complete an application
  • Volunteers over 18 must undergo a background check
  • School-appointed community service and ISP hours are gladly accepted, based on availability
  • Court-ordered community service volunteers are not accepted at the Museum

Please note: While hours are flexible, volunteers interested in an on-going position must commit to a minimum of three months of service.

  • Free First Tuesday Nights

    2019 Dates: January 8, February 5, March 5, April 2, May 7, June 4, July 2, August 6, September 3, October 1, November 5, December 3
    Shift: 4 pm - 8:30 pm

    Families can play for free the first Tuesday evening of each month from 4 - 8 pm. Volunteers interact with Museum guests and encourage play in our world-class exhibits.

  • Playologist

    Join our team as a Playologist to interact with guests throughout all parts of the Museum! 

    Position Responsibilities

    Exhibit Facilitation: Altitude, The Art Studio, Assembly Plant, Energy and Joy Park

    • Enthusiastically welcome and interact with guests
    • Monitor spaces and encourage safe play
    • Support Museum Associates in resetting and restocking exhibits

    Educational Programming: The Art Studio, Joy Park and The Teaching Kitchen

    • Follow staff instructions and assist in program preparations
    • Eagerly welcome members and guests  
    • Excite guests by giving them information surrounding the program

    Guest Services

    • Provide merchandising, pricing and inventory support for Café and Gift Shop                                                                
    • Assist with queuing and direct guests in the Museum lobby
    • Greet members & guests and act as a source of Museum information

    Position Requirements:  Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

    • Must be at least 13 years of age
    • Must represent the Children’s Museum in an enthusiastic and professional manner
    • Must be on time for all scheduled shifts and notify supervisor if unable to attend a shift
    • Treat every member and guest with respect and courtesy
    • Enjoy engaging with the public of all ages, ethnic and cultural backgrounds
    • Self-motivated with strong communication skills

    Physical Working Conditions and Effort

    • Must be able to move/sit/stand for 4 hours at a time
    • Must be flexible to work both indoors and outdoors during shift
  • Guest Services Ambassador

    Are you friendly, enthusiastic, and eager to engage? We want every guest to receive a warm welcome to the Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus and we want you to be the one to do it! Guest Services Ambassadors will check in members, provide hand stamps and share their general Museum knowledge, offer information about our upcoming events, give friendly smiles and more!

     

    Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions

    • Accurately check in the museum’s members using Altru
    • Ensures efficient entry and exit flow of museum guests by providing hand stamps, line direction, and basic admission information.
    • Provides information and directions to guests regarding the Museum’s exhibits and programs
    • Takes ownership of lobby area to ensure a clean and safe environment
    • Supports Museum safety policies
    • Consults Guest Services Associates for assistance as needed
    • Respond to scheduling inquiries in a timely manner

     

    Position Requirements:  Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

    • Guest Services Ambassadors are expected to speak positively and be in good health, lively and young at heart with a desire to welcome guests in a fun and friendly manner
    • Ability to articulate with clear speaking voice
    • Dedicated and dependable, reliable and responsible
    • Works well with minimal supervision and structure
    • Attend all trainings and new volunteer orientations as required
    • Ability to learn and retain knowledge of Museum policies, procedures, operations and staff

  • Teaching Kitchen Assistant

    In our Teaching Kitchen, families explore new foods and learn how to make healthy recipes together. Be a part of this amazing space as a Teaching Kitchen Assistant.

    Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions

    • Follow safety and sanitation guidelines
    • Engage with families during class
    • Clean, gather and set necessary equipment for class as directed
    • Interact with Museum guests while distributing food samples using The Tasting Cart

    Position Requirements: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

    • Experience with cooking, at home or in a professional kitchen preferred
    • Capable of working individually and as part of a team
    • Dedicated, organized and dependable
    • Must be at least 16 years of age

    Physical Working Conditions and Effort

    • Must be able to move/stand for 4 hours at a time
    • Ability to lift 30 - 40 lbs.
    • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to noisy
  • Art Studio Ambassador

    In The Art Studio, we encourage our guests to let their imagination run wild! Between painting, drawing, collaging and crafting, there is always a new creative experience to explore.

    Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions

    • Ensure a clean and safe environment
    • Make phone calls and keep detailed notes for guest clay/art pickup
    • Clean, reset and refill painting supplies
    • Maintain and organize the Invitation Table 
    • Support Museum safety policies

    • Ability to articulately speak with guests
    • Dedicated and dependable
    • Works well with minimal supervision and structure
    • Must be at least 16 years of age

  • Gift Shop Assistant

    Do you love to shop 'til you drop? Then helping out in our Gift Shop is for you!

    Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions

    • Provide a fun and engaging Gift Shop experience for members and guests
    • Assist with selecting, ordering, pricing and stocking Gift Shop products
    • Maintain a clean and organized Gift Shop
    • Assist with conducting inventory counts as needed

    Position Requirements: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

    • Comfortable working in a busy retail environment
    • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
    • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and organized
    • Previous retail, purchasing or merchandising experience preferred
    • Comfortable with phones and basic administrative duties
    • Must be at least 16 years of age

  • Membership Assistant

    The Membership Assistant provides essential administrative support to our membership team.

    Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions

    • Process membership applications
    • Support database entry and related administrative tasks
    • Be friendly, engaging and fun to represent the Museum in a positive and professional manner

    Position Requirements: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

    • Organized and self-motivated
    • Strong customer service and communication skills
    • Capable of working individually and as part of a team
    • Comfortable with phones and basic administrative duties
    • Must be at least 15 years of age

    Physical Working Conditions and Effort

    • Must be able to sit for 4 - 6 hours at a time
    • Must be able to type 30 wpm
  • Venue Rental Assistant

    The Venue Rental Assistant provides exceptional customer service while supporting Museum staff during private events.

    Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions

    • Assist with operational efforts related to the Museum’s Venue Rental program
    • Provide support with event preparation and breakdown
    • Help maintain a welcoming, enjoyable and safe environment
    • Ensure clients and caterers are informed of rental rules and guidelines
    • Support administrative needs as necessary

    Position Requirements: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

    • Enjoy working with diverse groups of people
    • Creative, outgoing and flexible
    • Exceptional customer service skills
    • Must be 18+

    Physical Working Conditions and Effort

    • Fast paced environment; event set-up and breakdown (tables, chairs, etc)
    • Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Accessibility Playologist

    The Accessibility Playologist is responsible for facilitating activities, engaging with guests and keeping exhibit spaces organized and inviting during accessibility events. Playologist volunteers gain hands-on experience helping children and families with disabilities engage in meaningful play-based learning. Volunteers have the opportunity to collaborate with education staff to enhance programming designed for access and inclusion in the Museum.

    Accessibility volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and attend a staff accessibility training. Shifts are Saturday mornings (bi-monthly) from 7:30 am - 10:30 am. 

  • Evaluation and Audience Research Assistant

    The Evaluation and Audience Research Assistant provides essential support to Museum staff by assisting with data collection on the Museum floor, data entry and other crucial tasks.

    Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions

    • Data collection activities on the Museum floor, for example, asking adult guests to complete digital surveys
    • Assist Museum staff with data collection by interacting and engaging with children while adult guests are being interviewed
    • Data entry and administrative tasks related to evaluation and research

    Position Requirements: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

    • Fluent in verbal and written English
    • Bilingual Spanish a plus
    • Confident and friendly while talking with children and adults
    • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in completing tasks
    • Computer proficiency
    • Must be at least 15 years of age

    Physical Working Conditions and Effort

    • Must be able to move/sit/stand for 4 - 6 hours at a time
    • Many shifts will take place on the Museum floor, a moderate to noisy environment
